wpd Buys Butendiek Offshore Wind Farm

wpd has acquired 100% of the shares of Butendiek Offshore Windpark Holding GmbH, Hamburg, from SSE Renewables Germany Holdings GmbH, Hamburg.

Swift implementation of the project is now planned, said the new owner, which described the farm as “one of the most advanced offshore wind farms in German waters.”

The Butendiek offshore wind farm will feature 80 turbines in between 18 and 20 metres of water 34 km west of the Sylt Island in the North Sea.

The wind farm was initiated by 8400 investors from the region in 2001. Shareholders are currently determining contracts between these “Butendiekers” and wpd.

SSE Renewables took over the Butendiek project through its purchase of Airtricity in 2008.
