Wind Energy by the Block in New Mexico

August 22, 2003 [] The New Mexico State Public Regulation Commission approved the proposed PNM Sky Blue program that allows residential customers to purchase renewable energy in blocks of 100 KWh for an additional charge of US$1.80 per 100 KWh on the customer’s monthly bill. Commercial customers may also participate in the program by paying the (US$0.018) 1.8 cent-per-kWh rate for renewable energy, purchased as a proportion of their overall electric usage rather than in blocks. Electricity for PNM Sky Blue will come from the New Mexico Wind Energy Center, a 204 MW facility near House, New Mexico, that can generate enough electricity to supply 94,000 average-sized New Mexico homes.
