VL Offshore Unveils New Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Foundation

Houston-based VL Offshore (VLO) said this week that it has unveiled its Y-Wind floating offshore wind foundation.

The company said that price and technology barriers have been constraining the offshore floating wind sector, adding that the Y-Wind is designed to overcome those barriers.

According to VLO, features of the Y-Wind foundation include:

  • Ease of construction
  • Proprietary motion dampening structures
  • Low mooring costs
  • Shallow lightship draft with turbine-
  • No active ballasting

The Y-Wind is designed for water depths to 1,000 m and for turbine sizes of 3 MW and greater.
