2002-04-04 [SolarAccess.com] Vestas – American Wind Technology, a subsidiary of Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems has received a contract for 175 wind turbines from FPL Energy LLC. The order was worth approximately DKK 500 million (US$59 million) but included an option for a further 650 turbines, which means that the total order value could rise to DKK 2.3 billion (US$272 million), according to the company. In connection with today’s announcement Vestas Wind Systems also unveiled plans to build a 70,000 square meter manufacturing facility in Portland, Oregon, where it would assemble nacelles, produce blades and manufacture turbine towers.
