UK Approves First Offshore Wind Farm in Wales

August 1, 2002 [] Britain’s Minister for Energy, Brian Wilson, has granted consent to the largest offshore wind farm in the UK. The National Wind Power project known as North Hoyle, will be based 7.5 km off the North Wales coast from Prestatyn and Rhyl in Denbighshire. The project will consist of up to 30 wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 90 MW and will provide electricity for a minimum of 50,000 homes.
