U.S. Firm Sells Xmas ‘Stocking Stuffer’ to Save the Planet

NativeEnergy is promoting the sale of a one-year membership in WindBuilders(SM) as a holiday gift.

NORTH FERRISBURGH, Vermont, US, 2002-01-02 [SolarAccess.com] Revenue from WindBuilders memberships finance construction of new windfarms, while NativeEnergy receives the ‘Green Tags’ which represent the CO2 emission reductions and environmental attributes that are generated over the facility’s lifetime. The gift memberships are promoted to environmentalists and renewable energy advocates, and are available for US$120 (or $11 per month). The company says a one-year membership is equivalent to powering and heating an average home with wind-generated energy, reducing the home’s CO2 emissions to zero. NativeEnergy donates the Green Tags to ‘Clean Air – Cool Planet,’ a non- profit group involved in climate change issues. The company’s five-year goal is to displace the emission of five megatonnes of CO2 and to facilitate construction of 150 commercial-scale wind turbines.
