Two More Colleges Pursue Commitment to Renewable Energy

[] For five years, Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut, has purchased renewable energy certificates (RECs) that provide a subsidy for production of wind energy equal to a percentage of the college’s annual electricity consumption. This year, for the first time, the college is offsetting 100 percent of its annual electricity consumption. In related news, during Swarthmore College’s recent Board of Managers annual budget review meeting, the College committed to purchase 35 percent of its total energy use from wind power sources.
