U.S. sets site visit for turbine repairs at 1,076.6-MW Bonneville Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a site visit for a pending solicitation to repair a turbine in the Second Powerhouse of 1,076.6-MW Bonneville Dam in Oregon and Washington. The site visit is Nov. 7, with the solicitation expected to be issued in early November.

The Corps’ Portland District took bids in September to refurbish generator step-up transformers in Bonneville’s Second Powerhouse. It took information in December on firms able to supply air gap/vibration monitoring sensor equipment at Bonneville. Bonneville is a turbine design testing site for improvement of fish passage.

The Corps plans to issue a solicitation in early November for repairs to Main Unit 11 in Bonneville’s Second Powerhouse. Work is to include a new thrust collar and new one-piece thrust runner, final machined with a mandrel (dummy shaft) to mimic the existing shaft. The spring bed for Unit 11 is to be shipped out and re-machined flat, removing no more than .010 inch

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W9127N14R0015 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.

A site visit is scheduled at 9:30 a.m., Pacific time, Nov. 7. Those planning to attend are to contact Mike Adams by e-mail at [email protected], indicating company name, names of persons attending, and whether they are U.S. citizens. Bids are expected to be due in late November.
