OMAHA, Neb., U.S. 6/22/12 (PennWell) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline for bids to rehabilitate a turbine-generator at the 185.3-MW Fort Peck hydroelectric project on the Missouri River near Glasgow, Mont. Bids now are due July 31.
The Corps’ Omaha District previously called for bids by July 18. The agency awarded a $4 million contract in 2008 to Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation to rewind a generator at Fort Peck.
The Corps now seeks bids for engineering and design to optimize power, performance, and efficiency of Unit 2 of the five-unit plant. The vertical-axis Francis unit has been in service since 1943 and is in daily use.
The plans call for a contractor to furnish and install a new Francis turbine runner optimized to specified peak performance at a head of 190 feet. Other work includes a generator restack and rewind, and refurbishment of wicket gates, linkages, operating ring, servo, head cover, stay ring, and thrust bearing. The work is expected to require 560 days, scheduled during planned seasonal outages.
A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W9128F12R0016 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box.
