Hydro operator Donaukraftwerk Jochenstein AG has awarded a contract to Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation to supply a replacement turbine for the 132-MW Jochenstein hydroelectric project in Germany.
The 1.9 million euro (US$2.4 million) contract calls for Voith Siemens to redevelop Jochenstein Unit 5, a 28.9-MW turbine with a diameter of 7.4 meters. Voith Siemens was one of two bidders for the work.
Earlier last year, Donaukraftwerk Jochenstein awarded a 5.75 million euro (US$8.9 million) contract to Alstom Hydro Austria GmbH to supply replacement generators for the Jochenstein. (HNN 5/16/08)
Built in 1956 on the Danube River between Germany and Austria, Jochenstein has five 28-MW Kaplan turbine-generators.
