Today, GE Renewable Energy announced that it has completed the installation and commissioning of the 53-MW Kirazli and 32-MW Meryem wind farms in Turkey. These wind farms are part of a larger order made with Turkerler and RT Enerjito to supply five wind farms: Kirazli, Meryem, Sile, Pamukova and Mahmut Sevket. The farms will feature forty-nine units of GE’s 3-MW onshore wind turbines, with a total capacity of 158 MW, said the company.
The Kirazli wind farm installation presented technical challenges, as the site is located at the top of a hill and at the end of a narrow, winding 20-kilometer rural road crossing farms and villages.
GE locally produced the blades at its LM Wind Power wind turbine blades manufacturing site in Bergama, Izmir, Turkey, which has more than 450 employees.
In related news, GE is also announcing today that it has secured two 30-MW contracts to supply a total of 12 units of GE’s 5-MW Cypress wind turbines to support construction of the Quoc Vinh Soc Trang and Lac Hoa Soc Trang wind farms, located in the Mekong Delta, Southern Region of Vietnam. PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation will provide full Engineering, Procurement and Construction services for the projects.
The Cypress onshore wind turbine has a two-piece blade design that enables better transportation, improving logistics to drive costs down and offer more siting options in locations that were previously inaccessible, said GE.
Each wind farm is expected to contribute in excess of 100 million kWh of electricity annually to the national grid after once the project is fully operational by third quarter of 2021.

This is the first partnership in Vietnam with PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation, a long-term global EPC partner of GE. GE Vietnam has more than 1600 employees and is the only wind OEM with a manufacturing footprint in country.
