SaskEnergy and its transmission subsidiary TransGas, will be buying wind-generated GreenPower from SaskPower for 13 regional offices and facilities across Saskatchewan.
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada – August 12, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] “Buying GreenPower for our regional facilities is just one of the many ways SaskEnergy and TransGas are doing our part to improve the environment,” said Daryl Posehn, Vice President, TransGas. “We’re excited to be a part of the GreenPower program as it fits well with our own initiatives from helping customers purchase energy efficient natural gas appliances to protecting natural habitat – all things which help reduce the impact our daily lives have on the environment.” SaskEnergy has agreed to purchase 714,300 kilowatt hours of GreenPower for nine customer service centers, three offices and a natural gas compressor station. This amount of green power equates to removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere by planting 142,000 trees, or taking almost 100 mid-sized cars off the road. “SaskPower’s GreenPower product reflects the corporation’s commitment to offer an environmentally sensitive electricity option to our business and residential customers,” said Rick Patrick, Vice President, Planning, Environment and Regulatory Affairs, SaskPower. “GreenPower is an important part of SaskPower’s ongoing exploration of alternative electrical generation options, which will help meet the province’s electrical needs.” SaskPower first offered GreenPower to its large commercial and industrial business customers March 6th, with the University of Regina becoming SaskPower’s first commercial GreenPower customer. GreenPower will initially come from the SunBridge Wind Power Project. SaskPower’s Cypress Wind Power project will begin generating GreenPower in September, 2002.SaskEnergy Purchases GreenPower for Offices
