REpower Supplies Ten Turbines for Japanese Wind Farm

The REpower Systems AG has signed a contract for the delivery of ten wind turbines of the MM82 type to the Japanese prefecture Hyogo on the island of Honshu, enough to comprise a whole wind farm.

This is REpower’s first delivery and installation of a whole wind farm consisting of MM82 (height: 80 metres, rotor diameter 82 meters, 60 Hz) turbines in Japan. There is also an option on two further turbines. The ten MM82 nacelles will be manufactured in Germany and shipped to Japan. The towers will be fabricated according to guidelines in Korea, supervised by REpower’s Japanese sales partner Meidensha Corporation (MEIDEN). The towers will also be transported by ship to Japan afterwards. The beginning of the installation is scheduled for the end of this year, completion is planned for the first half-year of 2008. Together with MEIDEN, 43 turbines — primarily of the MD series — with a total output of 65.5 MW have been installed up to now. With the erection of the Hyogo wind farm, the sales partnership with MEIDEN, existing since 2003, will be continued. Project developer is Kanden Energy Development, the client is the Kajima Corporation, which is headquartered in Tokyo and has around 11,000 employees. REpower Systems AG, manufacturer of onshore and offshore wind turbines, develops, produces and sells wind turbines with outputs ranging from 1.5 to 5 megawatts and rotor diameters of 70 to 126 meters. REpower is represented in European markets including France, the UK, Italy, Portugal and Spain and in the international markets of Japan, China and Australia through its sales partners, subsidiaries and investments.
