Ex Texas Gov. Rick Perry has reportedly told President Donald Trump of his plans to resign as secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, Trump said Perry, 69, will stay on as energy secretary until the end of the year. A replacement has already been selected, according to the president.
Perry, an original member of Trump’s cabinet who also ran for president in 2012 and 2016, was subpoenaed last week as part of an investigation into Trump’s request that Ukraine dig up dirt on his political rivals.
Perry, a Republican, led a delegation to Ukraine during the inauguration of President Volodymyr Zelensky in May.
