Rate Settlement Could Benefit Solar, Wind Customers

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Xcel Energy has reached a series of settlements in response to the utility’s rate increase and electricity meter proposals for the coming year. Instead of raising the premium for its voluntary Windsource program, Xcel would keep electric rates flat for its power customers, according to the settlement terms. The utility would also use existing meters to measure electricity consumption for customers who use solar panels instead of requiring customers to install an additional meter. Finally, power customers who have large electricity needs could get credits if they agree to power cuts during peak hours. The series of settlements have been filed with the Public Utilities Commission, and a decision is expected in February.
