Public Notice Issued on LIPA Offshore Wind Project

[] It’s been in the works for some time but now it’s official. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, issued a Public Notice regarding a permit application submitted by the Long Island Power Authority and Long Island Offshore Wind Park, LLC. The proposals would place 40 wind turbine generators 3.6 miles off Jones Beach Island. The work would include placement of an offshore electrical substation platform, buried cables between the turbine array, and a transmission cable from the offshore substation to an existing LIPA substation in West Amityville, N.Y. Interested persons may submit written comments until July 22, when the public comment period will close.
