Permission Granted for 48 MW Scottish Wind Farm

Airtricity has secured planning permission from the Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Planning and Environment Committee for its 48 MW wind farm at Dalswinton in Dumfries & Galloway. The 16 turbine wind farm, will produce a maximum capacity of 48 MW, and is located 13km N/NW of Dumfries, one of Scotland’s most southerly points. It is expected to supply green energy to around 20,000 homes and mitigate the release of around 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year. Construction is expected to begin this summer with the wind farm generating power at the start of 2006. The company opened its first Scottish wind farm – a 12 turbine development – near Ardrossan in North Ayrshire in August 2004.
