Offshore Wind Power Coalition to Call on Congress

A new coalition representing a diverse mix of representatives from industry, labor, maritime and the environment will hold a press conference Thursday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at the National Press Club to announce a campaign to urge Congress to reject an amendment inserted into a Coast Guard Bill by a small number of Congressmen and Senators in Conference Committee.

This backroom amendment pushed by special interests would unfairly target Cape Wind, and undermine America’s quest for energy independence and Congress’ call for more renewable energy. The amendment would also be a setback to legislative transparency, states the release. The organizations participating in the press conference include American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Cape Wind, Clean Power Now, Conservation Law Foundation, Greenpeace, Lehman Brothers, National Ocean Industries Association, Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Union of Concerned Scientists, and U.S. Public Interest Research Group.
