New Zealand to Build Pakistan Windmills

New Zealand will install a wind turbine in Gwadar district of Pakistan.

GWADAR, Pakistan, PK, 2001-08-02 [SolarAccess.com] New Zealand will install a wind turbine in Gwadar district of Pakistan. Empower Consultant Limited applied to the Asia Development Assistance Facility for funding and assistance to install the unit in the village of Chaib Kalmaty, 25 km from Gwadar. The cost of the installation will be US$67,000, and the turbine will generate electricity for basic power needs. A community organization will be created to operate, maintain and manage the project. Remote communities in coastal areas of Gwadar do not have access to electricity, with a resulting barrier to economic development. In 1999, a government study investigated the potential for generating electricity from renewable resources and found potential for wind power along the coast.
