NABCEP Participates at the Energy Outfitters Expo

The Energy Outfitters Tech Conference and RE Expo will offer dealers and installers a new opportunity to apply technical knowledge gained during the Expo toward satisfying certain requirements of The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP’s) certification for Solar photovoltaic (PV) Installers.

Malta, New York – November 10, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] The Expo, taking place December 4-6 in Las Vegas, Nevada, will be the first renewable energy conference devoted specifically to dealers and installers of renewable energy systems. With solar (PV) installations growing rapidly, many in the industry recognize the need for professional installers to establish quality standards. NABCEP answered this call, and recently administered the first, of what will be many rounds of NABCEP solar installer certification tests. NABCEP’s Executive Director Peter Sheehan said they were happily surprised to find more demand for the initial test than they had predicted. “We were thrilled with the response we received and were very pleased to have candidates from 30 states,” Sheehan said. Sheehan said the certification helps to assure the public that PV professionals possess the skills and knowledge to competently install such systems. It is expected that the results of the first round of testing will be available by the time of the Expo. While there are numerous requirements for certification, training/continuing education credits are included in some of the entry tracks to qualify for the exam and to maintain the certification. Sheehan said this component dovetails nicely with the Expo. Since many solar-related companies attending the Energy Outfitter’s Expo will offer hands-on training sessions, there is an opportunity to obtain education credits toward NABCEP certification or recertification provided it meets NABCEPý s requirements. According to NABCEP, any training must meet its requirements (such as a formal supervised training format ý with a teacher-learner format). Those taking such courses should check the Candidate Information Handbook on NABCEPýs web site (see link below) to determine if the courses meet those requirements. NABCEP certification forms and the certification handbook will be available a the Expo. Energy Outfitters will offer vouchers to pay half of the $50 application fee. Solar and wind energy technology from 18 manufacturers will be featured in the exhibit area to present the latest in new products, product demonstrations, and efficient installation techniques. Both links below will offer more information on which companies are presenting technical sessions, the schedule for the technical conferences, and an Expo registration form. In addition to the hands-on technical conferences, keynote speakers from NABCEP and Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) will address their comprehensive view of the future for renewable energy businesses. Just as the NABCEP certification is filling the niche for nationwide recognition, Bob Maynard, the President of Energy Outfitters, said the Expo is fulfilling the need for an event that brings together the dealers and installers that are out in the field, working with customers, the equipment, and bringing energy independence to homes and businesses across the U.S. “Our customers and other dealers have told us they want a special event dedicated to RE dealer/installers,” said Bob Maynard, President of Energy Outfitters, “So, we’ve created an event where they can network with each other, gain product knowledge and important technical training from manufacturers.”
