Mfr.’s REC Initiative Sets New Precedent

[] Up to 250 renewable wind energy certificates are being distributed to its retailers by PrAna, a manufacturer of outdoor apparel, to use toward the electricity their stores consume. The initiative, which was launched at the August Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt Lake City, Utah, was well received by retailers. In October 2005, PrAna will also be offsetting 100 percent of the electrical energy use in its headquarters as well as the homes of employees. The company, which intends to bring all 1,000 of its U.S. retail customers on board soon as part of its commitment to sustainable practices, has committed to environmental responsibility since its founding in 1992.
