Mesalands Gets $2.1 M for Wind Power Project

[New Mexico Business Weekly] Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari will receive $2.1 million in state funds for its planned North American Wind Research and Training Center (NAWRTC). The state Legislature approved the funds during its session this year. Gov. Bill Richardson signed the award into law in March. The money will finance the purchase, installation and grid connection of a utility scale, 1 to 1.5 megawatt wind turbine. The turbine will be used for training and research in the new Mesalands program. It will also offset — or possibly completely pay for — the electricity used by the college.
