Martifier Starts Construction on Wind Tower Factory in Texas

Martifer Group, through its Martifer Energy Systems division, will begin construction this month on a wind tower factory in Texas. This is the second facility Martifier has built in the last four years and will be located in the city of San Angelo. The facility will represent a total investment of approximately US $40 million.

Texas Governor Rick Perry announced a US $945,000 award from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) to Martifer Energy Systems LLC for the project and the project was also awarded a US $12 million incentive package provided by the City of San Angelo and City of San Angelo Development Corporation. According to Martifer, construction of the factory will be finished in the second half of 2009 and the facility will create 225 jobs. The facotry is expected to produce 400 towers per year by 2013.

“We look forward to working in Texas to advance our efforts in becoming a global player in the supply of wind
farm turnkey projects,” said António Pontes, CEO of Martifer Energy Systems. “This plant will leverage Martifer Energy Systems activity in the United States, a new market for the energy equipment business area and an enormous chance for the expansion of Martifer activities in turnkey wind farms, aligning with the group’s strategy established for this segment.”
