In Six Months 9,000 Homes Choose Wind Energy

[] Strong consumer interest in renewable energy certificates has blown Peco Energy onto the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) top ten green power programs list. More than 9,000 local households have chosen to purchase Peco Wind, the wind power option provided by alternative energy marketing group PECO Energy and Community Energy, since the program began six months ago. Peco Wind is available to the utility’s residential and business customers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia and York counties. Power to meet the renewable energy certificate (REC) demand is supplied by facility in Waymart, which is near the Poconos. The program is offered to residential customers in 100 kWh blocks for an additional monthly fee of $2.50 per block, which is added directly to customers’ monthly bill. Business customers can sign up for wind power REC’s as well, and commercial customers in Pennsylvania are already supporting more than 100 MW of wind generation in the state.
