Iberdrola Extends 25-MW PPA with MID

Iberdrola Renewables has extended and expanded an existing power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Modesto Irrigation District (MID). MID will extend an existing 25 megawatt (MW) contract with Iberdrola Renewables to June 30, 2015.

Then from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2028, MID will expand the PPA to 50 MW. MID has a goal of getting 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2017.

“This continued and expanded PPA puts MID in an even better position to respond to California’s changing renewable energy targets,” said Allen Short, MID’s general manager. “With this expanded PPA, MID now gets 19 percent of its portfolio from renewables.”

The power from the contract comes from the High Wind Energy Center located in Solano County, California. The project came online in 2003 and MID has been taking deliveries from the 162-MW project since June 1, 2004.

Iberdrola Renewables has a portfolio of nearly 3,500 MWs of wind power currently in operation across the U.S., including a total of 380 MW now operating in California.
