Greengate Gets Municipal Approval for 550-MW Wind Project

Greengate Power Corporation (Greengate) announced that it has received municipal approvals for the construction of three wind projects in Alberta, Canada totaling 550 megawatts (MW) in capacity.

The three projects, Blackspring Ridge (300 MW), Halkirk (150 MW) and Stirling (100 MW) will have a capital cost in excess of CAN $1 billion [US $773 million], and once completed, will provide a clean source of power to approximately 200,000 Alberta homes. Greengate expects to begin construction on the projects in 2009 or 2010.

“Obtaining municipal approvals is a major milestone in our project development efforts. We look forward to ongoing dialogue with the municipalities and local communities as we continue to develop our projects,” said Dan Balaban, president and CEO of Greengate Power Corporation.
