Fuji Develops New Style Wind Turbine

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. has developed a compact wind power generation system that produces up to 100 kilowatts of electricity, according to company officials.

TOKYO, Japan – April 16, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The company hopes to receive its first order for the system early in the current fiscal year that started last week. It has already received more than 100 inquiries about the new system, the officials said. Fuji Heavy used its helicopter rotor technology in developing the new generator’s blades, which can produce power with a wind velocity of only 2 meters per second. While large-scale systems have been the mainstream for wind power generation, Fuji Heavy aims to open up a new market for compact generation systems that can be established in such areas as the suburbs of big cities.
