FPL Wants To Expand Wind Power

The FPL Group Inc says it may substantially increase its wind power generation if Congress renews wind production tax credits.

JUNO BEACH, Florida (US) 2002-01-28 [SolarAccess.com] Its independent subsidiary, FPL Energy, says 2001 net income was up 27 percent, growing from US$83 million in 2000 to $105 million last year. Growth in earnings was in line with growth in capacity, which expanded from 4,110 to 5,063 MW during the year. Wind power is 29 percent of the portfolio. Projects under construction will add 1,400 MW this year and 2,300 MW in 2003. If Congress renews the production tax credit for wind energy projects, the company expects to add 500 to 1,000 MW of additional wind generation this year.
