FPL Energy’s Texas Wind Farms Revitalize Rural Communities

Juno Beach, Florida [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] FPL Energy, LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Group said that its wind farms continue to help meet the need for emission-free electricity in Texas while providing economic opportunities for local communities and the state. With 11 wind farms in operation in the state, FPL Energy, through its subsidiaries, invested nearly $1 billion in Texas in 2006. With a net capacity of more than 1,600 megawatts (MW), FPL Energy’s wind projects in Texas generated more than 3.6 million megawatt hours of electricity in 2006, and generated tens of millions of dollars in state and local tax payments, salaries, lease payments and locally purchased goods and services. Nationwide, FPL Energy’s 49 wind projects generated more than 9.4 million megawatt hours of electricity in 2006.
