Escondido, California [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] enXco, Inc. has the approval from the Solano County Board of Supervisors to partially repower an existing wind project near Rio Vista, CA. This project includes the replacement of ninety 56-100 Kenetech wind turbines with six GE 1.5 MW turbines. This is the first of what could be multiple repowering phases at the existing wind farm in the Montezuma Hills’ designated wind resource area, according to Geraldine Schumacher, enXco V Project Manager. The project construction, expected to be completed in March of 2006, will result in 9 MW of wind energy. When completed, it will provide electricity for approximately 2,700 homes on an average annual basis. “The approval by Solano County of the permit for repowering at the enXco V site near Rio Vista is another big step in enXco’s efforts to bring the latest and most environment-friendly wind turbine technology to its projects in California,” said Jim Walker, Vice Chairman of enXco. The efforts of the Solano County Board of Supervisors and staff in expediting this permit will allow the project to go into operation before the summer peak demand season in 2006, and will create local construction jobs in the process, Walker said.
