Energy Developer Buys Rights to Canada Wind Project

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Canadian developer EPCOR announced its intent to purchase the Ontario-based Port Albert Wind Farms (PAWF), which will give the company the development and interconnection rights for over 270 MW of wind power near the western shores of Lake Huron, as well as a 660 kW turbine currently in operation. The 12,000 acre land base covered by this agreement has a highly favorable wind regime and is in close proximity to EPCOR’s 39.6 MW Kingsbridge Wind Power Project, currently under construction near Goderich, Ontario. EPCOR commenced work on Kingsbridge following its November 2004 selection by the government of Ontario in its competitive Renewable Energy Supply RFP process. The Kingsbridge Wind Power Project is scheduled for completion in late 2005 or early 2006. PAWF has previously conducted an extensive environmental assessment, the results of which indicate that the area is well suited to an extensive wind power facility. The land base acquired in the agreement is located in Township of Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh, with many sections directly adjacent to EPCOR’s Kingsbridge Wind Power Project.
