[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Energi E2 secured the contract to build a new offshore wind farm at the ill-fated Horns Rev located off the shores of Denmark. Transformer malfunctions at an existing wind farm required the removal and refurbishing of all the farm’s 80 turbines. This new wind power project will be located about 10 km farther from the coast than the existing offshore wind farm at Horns Rev and will cover an area of some 35 km2. The project is expected to have the capacity to supply some 200,000 households with electricity annually, equivalent to about 2 percent of Denmark’s total electricity consumption. The Danish Energy Authority has awarded the concession to E2 because the company submitted the bid with the lowest settlement price. According to plan, the wind farm will come into operation by the end of 2009.
