Chinese Wind Farm Out to Bid

June 13, 2002 [] The authorities of Huilai County of Guangdong Province in China plan to call for bids for the Shipaishan wind power plant project. Huilai is situated on the Guangdong coast and has effective wind power density of 1 KW per square mile. Its installed capacity can reach 600,000 kWh. The first wind power plant in Huilai was put into operation In 1999, in the first phase of the Shifeng Power Plant project and cost RMB 160 million (US$19.32 million), which included a loan from the German government. The second and third phases are still at the planning and fund-raising stage. The Shipaishan wind power project is expected to involve an investment of US$120 million.
