Chinese Region Sets Goals for Wind Power

July 5, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The Fujian Provincial Development Planning Commission and the Fujian Provincial Energy Research Society in China have come out with a “Plan for the Development of New and Renewable Energy and Policy Study Report”, which set the targets for wind power development in the next 5 to 15 years. In the 10th Five-Year Plan period (2001-05), the province will construct 200,000 kW of wind power capacity and will strive to put 100,000-150,000 kW into operation. Total investment is estimated to be 1.55 billion yuan (US$187 million). In the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2005-2010), the province will construct 800,000 kW of capacity, and strive to put into operation 600,000-700,000 kW, bringing the province’s total wind power capacity to over one million kW. The province will then construct other inland wind power fields and offshore wind fields.
