Cape Wind Secures Court Victory

August 26, 2003 [] Federal District Court Judge Joseph Tauro recently rejected an appeal of Cape Wind opponents that had attempted to invalidate the permit for the Scientific Data Tower on Horseshoe Shoal. Cape Wind’s proposal to build America’s first offshore wind farm on Horseshoe Shoal off Cape Cod, Massachusetts would provide three-quarters of the electricity used on Cape Cod and the Islands from clean, renewable energy – reducing the region’s need to import oil, coal and gas. Cape Wind said they are working hard to provide as much objective scientific information about this project as possible, and attempts like this failed lawsuit of their opponents represent an effort to stifle scientific research and informed debate on the merits of this important project. Cape Wind is currently undergoing an extensive environmental permit public-interest review by seventeen federal and state agencies.
