Briefly Noted … Wind Power– A subsidiary of Marubeni will build a 26 MW windfarm in southwestern Japan. Minami Kyuushuu Wind Power will commission the facility by March 2003 in Nejime, Kagoshima Prefecture. It will be one of the largest windfarms in Japan and will sell the generated electricity to Kyushu Electric Power, with annual sales expected to be 320 million yen. Half the windfarm will be built in Sata, and should be finished by March 2004. – A major manufacturer of wind turbines in the United States expects strong growth in the demand for wind energy next year. Hexcel Corp of Connecticut expects its US$530 million business from commercial aerospace to drop by 20 percent as a result of the terrorist attacks and the impact on airlines, but demand for renewable energy will continue to grow and the company has seen strong growth in demand for soft body armor.
