AREVA Signs 400-MW Deal with PROKON

AREVA, through its subsidiary Multibrid, has announced that is will supply PROKON Nord with 80 of its 5-megawatt (MW) wind turbines for the offshore wind farm Borkum West II. The expected sales will exceed EUR500 million (USD $735.2 million).

The wind farm is located north of the Borkum Island in the North Sea. AREVA will deliver its M5000 turbines during 2010 and 2011. This announcement comes in the wake of the decision made by Trianel, an association comprising German urban electric utilities, to join forces with PROKON Nord in the Borkum West II project, a 400-MW wind farm.

“Trianel’s decision to invest in the Borkum-West II project confirms the technological edge of the offshore wind turbines designed and manufactured by Multibrid,” said Ingo de Buhr, PROKON Nord’s founder.
