Paris, France [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] French technology firm Areva has announced the acquisition of offshore wind turbine blade manufacturer PN Rotor GmbH.
The agreement to acquire the German manufacturer of high performance rotor blades for offshore wind turbines comes from Prokon Nord Energiesysteme GmbH.
In a statement, Areva says the strategic acquisition will strengthen its competitiveness in the fast growing offshore wind market.
“This acquisition reinforces Areva’s ability to bring value to its offshore wind customers by securing the supply of a broader range of key components. The group is on track to become a major player in this rapidly growing sector,” said Anil Srivastava, CEO of Areva’s renewables business unit.
The news follows the recent signature of a binding Memorandum of Understanding worth more than €700 million (US $996 million) to supply 80 of its Multibrid M5000 offshore wind turbines for the 400-MW German Global Tech I wind farm in the North Sea.
