Acciona Receives 49.5 MW Contract in Canada

Acciona Energy has announced that it been awarded a contract for the installation of a 49.5 megawatt (MW) wind park in Canada. The decision was announced by the Prime Minister of New Brunswick, the Atlantic coast province where the facility will be located. With an investment of CAN$103.5 million (USD$101.9 million), the Lameque wind park will consist of thirty-three 1.5 MW Acciona turbines.

The selection of Acciona to carry out the project is the result of a public tender called in May 2007 by New Brunswick Power to acquire wind power from private developers. The wind park is wholly owned by Acciona Wind Energy Canada Inc., which will build and operate the facility and sign a power purchase agreement with New Brunswick Power for 25 years

“I am excited to have Acciona in New Brunswick and delighted about our move toward increasing renewable energy in the province,” said president and CEO of New Brunswick Power David Hay.
