Kansas City, Missouri [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Now fully operational, the $166 million Spearville Wind Energy Facility’s 67 wind turbines are capable of producing 1.5 megawatts (MW) of electricity each, announced Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy. Each turbine takes about one acre of the facility’s approximately 5,000 acres — the remaining land will be used for agriculture. KCP&L is the first regulated electric utility to own and operate a large-scale (100.5 MW total) wind facility in Kansas.
