Xcel Energy to Announce 500-MW RFP

May 11, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] In its least-cost resource plan filed with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission on April 30, Xcel Energy announced plans to procure up to 500 MW of new renewable energy-predominantly wind power-as a part of the 3,600 MW of new capacity the utility will add by 2013. Xcel Energy asked for the Commission’s permission to issue the renewable request for proposals (RFP) in July. The company’s press release states that it is looking to acquire renewable resources “to further hedge against more volatile fossil-fuel prices.”
