Vancouver, British Columbia [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Xantrex has successfully demonstrated a new solar Hybrid Power System that supplied electricity in a remote home installation with no access to the provincial electricity grid. Xantrex has also recently been selected to supply inverters for the first half of a 600-kilowatt (kW) solar tracker plant in Toledo, Spain. Plus, the company released its first 1800-Watt renewable backup power system for the DIY market.The Xantrex Hybrid Power System integrates power electronics, a battery bank, and a generator into a single system, and can provide enough electricity to power an average household. It uses solar power, micro-hydro power systems and small-scale wind generators to produce electricity immediately or to store in batteries for later use. “The Xantrex Hybrid Power System has great potential for powering remote off-grid residential and commercial sites,” said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. “This system is a state-of-the-art off-grid electricity supply. It’s small, quiet, convenient, cost effective and a tremendous improvement over the existing combustion generator that runs continuously.” And in Barcelona, Spain, Xantrex Technology has been selected by Spanish solar energy company Alternativas Energeticas Vaquero to supply solar inverters for a 300-kilowatt (kW) solar tracker plant in Toledo, Spain, which combines water, animal life, plants and buildings into an integrated facility. The solar plant will be composed of six 100 kW installations, with the first phase including three Xantrex GT100E central inverters, each of which is a 100 kW three-phase advanced power electronics system for grid-connected solar arrays. In a third announcement, Xantrex introduced PowerHub 1800, said to be the first renewable backup power system for the do-it-yourself (DIY) market. It is rechargeable, collects and stores energy from the electrical grid and from a range of renewable sources including solar panels and small wind turbines. The PowerHub can store enough power to support the energy needs of the average household, providing 1800 watts of continuous power through four external AC outlets. The unit’s display panel indicates the remaining charge and is said to be quiet and safe for indoor use. It can also be recharged through a standard electrical outlet connected to a generator or the grid, providing easy backup power for grid-tied homes as well.
