World Bank urges G7 Toward Renewables

August 23, 2002 [] World Bank analyst Linda Likar urged Industrialized countries to search for a solution to help the poor by developing new and renewable sources of energy that will not harm the environment. In its annual development report, the bank said Africa bears the brunt of unwise Western policies on climate change. These policies have unleashed a food crisis in southern Africa, and farming subsidies, which rob small farmers of the continent of their livelihood. The bank called for subsidies to be abolished.
