Telephone Service Buys Fuel Cell Backup

September 8, 2004 [] Oneida County Rural Telephone in upstate New York decided to make the switch from conventional backup batteries to a 5 kW fuel cell generator system from Plug Power. The decision helps to keep the Oneida communities on the cutting edge of technology, according to James McCarthy, who is the vice president of the telephone service. The system was installed on July 28, 2004 and has already provided backup power during a recent storm related power interruption.
