Commercial production has now begun for Calgary, Canada-based Sustainable Energy Technologies’ new SUNERGY 5 solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter. The new unit marks the company’s increasing shift from stationary fuel cell inverters to ones designed for the booming grid-tie solar PV market. The first of the 5 kW units are being manufactured in Canada and are being delivered to Free Power S.L. under a previously announced supply contract with that company. Through a previously announced partnership with Gabriel Benmayor SA, the company will eventually commit all their Canadian production to Spain where the manufacturing volumes will be raised. Michael Carten, the company’s President & CEO explained that that inverter marks a major transition for the company into new markets. For over two years, the company has predominantly manufactured inverters for the stationary fuel cell market but this move into the grid-tied solar PV market offers new and more promising opportunities for the company.
