Sustainable Cities in Europe

June 18, 2003 [] The European Solar Cities Initiative (ESCi) was launched at the ISES Solar World Congress in Gothenburg, Sweden to recognize the important role of cities in the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. ESCi was founded by global, regional and local actors interested in the field of sustainability in the built environment. The group, representing interested parties from academia, NGOs, the building sector, industry and policy groups, achieved strong consensus on the need to extensively reduce emissions in European cities.
