Solar Water Pump Subsidy for Australian Outback

PERTH, Queensland, AU, 2001-10-08 [SolarAccess.com] A multi-million dollar subsidy from the State of Queensland will be a large encouragement to the use of water pumping systems in Australia that are powered by renewable energy. Under Queensland’s Renewable Energy Pumping Scheme, a rebate of 50 percent will apply to the cost of renewable energy generating equipment and essential enabling equipment. A western Australian company, Solar Energy Systems, says the rebate effectively reduces the price of its innovative solar water pumps, known as Sun Mills™, by up to 35 percent for eligible applicants. The aim of REPS is to encourage the use of renewable energy and to reduce the use of diesel fuel, to meet Queensland’s off-grid water pumping requirements. The pumps are ideal for agricultural water pumping for livestock and irrigation, and can be used for other purposes such as salinity management. SES went into partnership with Shell Australia earlier this year, under which Shell distributes the Sun Mill system through its dealer network across Australia. SES says its solar-powered water pumping technology is reliable, inexpensive and simple, particularly in rural and remote areas of the Australian continent.
