December 20, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The North Carolina Solar Center held the groundbreaking of their new Alternative Fuels Vehicle (AFV) Garage this week. Construction is expected to be complete by May 2003. The AFV Garage, located adjacent to the center’s demonstration Solar House, will serve as a research and education facility for a variety of alternative fuels. Roof integrated photovoltaic panels will provide a portion of the electrical energy required to charge the batteries of electric vehicles. In addition, educational materials and hands-on demonstration for ethanol, biodiesel, compressed natural gas, gas-electric hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies will be provided.
