Solar cell certification service adds 156mm-square PV cell size

VLSI Standards expanded its Solar Cell Certification Services portfolio to include ISO-17025 accredited certification of customer-supplied production cells up to 156 × 156 mm in size.

(September 24, 2010) — VLSI Standards, Inc. expanded its Solar Cell Certification Services portfolio to include ISO-17025 accredited certification of customer-supplied production cells up to 156 × 156 mm in size.

ISO/IEC 17025:2005 provides general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

VLSI now offers multiple traceability paths to globally recognized national metrology institutes and laboratories including the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) of Germany, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) of Japan, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the U.S., which allows solar cell manufacturers to meet the metrology quality requirements of their worldwide customers.

To help solar cell manufacturers validate targeted or claimed product performance for internal quality control, customer validation or marketing purposes, the Solar Cell Certification Service will offer traceable measurements of production cells of short circuit current, open circuit voltage, maximum power, cell area, spectral response (or quantum efficiency), fill factor, and cell efficiency. These measurements will be conducted under Standard Test Conditions (STC.) Production cell measurements will continue to be serviced from VLSI Standard’s solar calibration laboratory in Milpitas, CA.
