SMA’s New Wireless Solar PV Monitor

Wireless isn’t just for your internet connection anymore. This week, inverter company SMA unveiled a small, wireless monitor for their Sunny Boy solar PV inverters that can be mounted or moved around anywhere within range of the inverters (100ft indoors, 1000ft outdoors). It provides real time data for up to four inverters and graphs a variety of information on an LCD display. A built-in solar panel picks up enough ambient light from within a home to help lengthen the life of the internal rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged via a USB port (alas, USB 1.1). The data can also be interfaced with a computer using SMA software. Best of all, the display unit is compatible with both old and new Sunny Boy inverters. Pricing and availability through SMA distributors only.
